Kirsty Leigh Young obtained her BA and LLB degrees (with distinction) at Rhodes University in 2000 and 2002 respectively. In 2003, she was awarded a bursary by Rhodes University to read for her Masters degree in judicial review in the labour and alternative dispute resolution contexts. She graduated with an  LLM degree (with distinction) in 2004, having completed the two-year degree in only one year.

Kirsty joined Brink Cohen Le Roux as a candidate attorney in 2004 and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2006. Kirsty was appointed as an associate of the firm in 2006 and was promoted to senior associate in 2007. She is currently practising in the litigation department, and has obtained experience in general litigation, commercial litigation, liquidation/ insolvency, administrative, mining and labour law matters.

Kirsty has written various articles for the Business Day Newspaper and for Contemporary Labour Law. She also appeared as a guest lawyer on the television show "Rights and Recourse" to discuss numerous aspects of the right to privacy.
